Role Purpose
As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in delivering an engaging and high-quality Science curriculum. Your responsibilities will include preparing, maintaining, and organizing laboratories, equipment, and resources for practical lessons. Collaborating closely with teaching staff, you will help create a safe, efficient, and stimulating learning environment while upholding high standards of health and safety.
Additionally, you will provide practical support to the Food Technology department, ensuring the smooth running of lessons by organizing ingredients, equipment, and teaching resources. As a valued member of our school community, your contributions will help foster a positive ethos and create an environment where pupils can truly thrive.
What You Will Be Doing
- Prepare, organize, and set up equipment and materials for Science and Food Technology lessons.
- Support teachers and pupils during practical activities, demonstrations, and investigations.
- Maintain laboratories and preparation rooms to ensure they are safe, clean, and fully stocked.
- Manage the storage and maintenance of specialist equipment.
- Monitor stock levels and liaise with suppliers as needed.
- Ensure safe storage and disposal of chemicals and food products.
- Conduct routine safety checks and support risk assessment processes.
- Assist with departmental administration, including inventory management.
- Support enrichment activities, educational visits, and school events.
- Contribute to the development of practical resources and learning environments.
- Promote high standards of health and safety and compliance.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure high-quality practical learning experiences.
What You Will Bring
Essential Qualifications:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English, Maths, and Science.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive, flexible approach.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy school environment.
- Experience in handling resources and maintaining accurate records.
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in a Science Technician or Food Technology Technician role.
- Experience in an educational setting.
- Laboratory Technician qualifications (or equivalent).
- First Aid training and experience.
- Knowledge of CLEAPSS guidance and COSHH regulations.
