Role Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to inspire our children. Pattison School is seeking to appoint a full-time Learning Support Assistant. The successful candidate will possess the knowledge, motivation, and experience to support pupils with a range of needs, including those with autism, dyslexia, and ADHD.
Our ideal candidate will work collaboratively with our staff to provide the very best support within the classroom, in small group situations, and on a one-to-one basis. You will work alongside teachers to enhance the learning and attainment of pupils while promoting their independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion.
What You Will Be Doing
- Assist in promoting the learning and personal development of assigned pupils, enabling them to make the best use of educational opportunities.
- Support pupils to learn effectively in group situations and on a one-to-one basis, clarifying instructions and aiding resource use.
- Motivate and encourage pupils by providing appropriate levels of individual attention, reassurance, and support with learning tasks.
- Assist in areas of difficulty such as speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, and social development.
- Establish supportive relationships and promote the inclusion and acceptance of pupils with SEND.
- Liaise with the class teacher, SENDCO, and other professionals, contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Implement agreed behavior management strategies consistently and effectively.
- Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and provide feedback on progress and behavior.
- Support pupils in developing social skills both in and out of the classroom.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow school policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality.
What You'll Bring
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or in a similar role within an educational setting.
- Experience supporting children and young people with SEND (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia).
- A good understanding of how children learn and how to support their individual needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.
- A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach.
- The ability to adapt quickly and respond to the changing needs of pupils.
- A proactive, flexible, and team-focused mindset.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- A willingness to undertake relevant training and continuous professional development.
